Acutonics & the 8 Brocades - Episode 1 ~ Kidney Power
This is a brief introduction to a famous set of QiGong exercises known commonly as the Eight Pieces of Brocade. QiGong (pronounced CheeGung in Chinese or KeeGong in Korean) simply means energy/breath, or work/exercise. QiGong exercises are a powerful and gentle way to move energy, increase flexibility and circulation, improve mood and mental clarity, strengthen connective tissue and the immune system. I could easily replace the “QiGong exercises” with “Acutonics" in that last sentence. I believe Qigong is a wonderful complement to our Acutonics, both for self care and for our clients. There are a multitude of exercises and practices that fall under this broad category. In this monthly series of videos and PDF’s, I will be sharing a different Brocade for the Acutonics community.
The original development of the Eight Brocades (BaDuanJin) is credited to 12th century General Yuen Fei. It was created to strengthen the body, balance the energy and release toxins. Over the centuries, many variations have evolved, and the Eight Brocades and QiGong have spread worldwide. There is a general order that the Eight Brocades are listed; however, they are not required to be performed in any order to fully benefit. I will be sharing the versions I learned from my teacher, a Korean HapKiDo Grandmaster and Acupuncturist, Dr. JiMong Choe.
The theme of this month in Acutonics Cosmos is Ohm. Our home frequency that grounds, roots and connects us with the Cosmic Divine. I have started this series with the Brocade I learned as Kidney Power, it is often called “Two Hands Hold the Feet to Strengthen the Kidneys”. The balancing, seasonal power of Ohm with the Yin energies of the MingMen, Kidney and Bladder makes this Acutonics/QiGong combination a foundational support to reckoned with! Because we have entered into Autumn (Metal, Lung, Large Intestine) and have begun preparing for Winter (Water, Kidney, Bladder), I believe this exercise will be most congruent with the theme and the season, thus allowing maximum benefit from its practice.
Here are some important considerations for your QiGong Practice:
Be mindful and present. Your mindful presence is more important than the details of the physical action.
Stay relaxed. These motions are gentle with an energetic fullness, not isometric contraction.
Try to match the motion with the breath.
Repeat at least 3 times.
Have a joyful spirit. An attitude of gratitude and an inner smile are essential!
The following are my Acupoint suggestions to compliment the exercise. I often use the forks first and then perform the exercise. However, I would encourage you to experiment, trying before and/or after, and experience which you like best.
1. Support the Lungs with:
LU 1 Middle Palace(Mu Point) ~ Ohm Unison or Earth Day
LU 5 Cubit Marsh (Water Point) ~ Ohm Unison and/or Ohm-Venus
2. Support the Kidneys with:
KID 1 Bubbling Spring (Grounding)~ Ohm Unison or Ohm Octave
KID 3 Supreme Stream (Source Point) ~ Ohm Unison and/or Earth Day
KID 6 Shining Sea (YinQiao Opening) ~ Ohm Unison and/or Ohm Mercury
UB 62 Extending Vessel (YangQiao Opening) ~Ohm Unison and/or Ohm-Mercury
3. Support the Whole with:
DU 4 MingMen/Gate of Life ~ Ohm Unison, Ohm Octave and/or Earth Day
The points and frequencies above are just an experienced suggestion. As I stated, I would encourage your further study and exploration. I hope you enjoy this version of a classic and it enriches your experience. Please feel free to reach me at m4energetics@gmail.com. I look forward to sharing more in the upcoming months!
