I am pleased to announce that I am an invited presenter at this year’s Building Bridges of Integration for Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference, October 11-14, 2018, in Reston, VA. On Thursday evening, October 11 Maren Good and I will present an evening meditation with sound. We hope you will join us for a meditative journey through the Universe accompanied by Sun, Moon, and Earth gongs.

Summer is a perfect time to focus on and nurture the fire element and the heart energy. In Chinese Medicine, the heart is more than just a pump for pushing blood through the arteries. The heart’s energy and spirit also include aspects that Western Medicine attributes to the brain. The mental functions of thinking, memory and consciousness are all processes related to the shen the spirit associated with the heart.

We take a visit to the Song Dynasty in China. Donna Carey and Ellen Franklin take us on a tour 1000 years into the past, to the golden age of Chinese Medicine. They immerse us in the cultural setting that encouraged our medicine to flourish – science, the arts, technology, the economy, the military, philosophy, cultural values, international relations, and, of course, medicine – so that we can understand why it flourished then, and they compare what happened during the Song to what is happening in China today.

Discussions of the Liver from a Chinese medicine perspective often focus on pathologies. That is, what happens when there is an imbalance in the Liver energy causing qi stagnation, overacting of the Liver on other energy systems in the body, Liver blood deficiency patterns and, over the past few years the involvement of Liver heat in creating chronic inflammatory conditions in the body.

n recognition of the Lunar Year of the Dog we thought it appropriate to create a reminder of the benefits of Acutonics for our dog friends. We can employ our forks to treat specific imbalances or simply as a periodic “tune up” to maintain energy flow and well-being.

It is common to think of the New Year as the start of a cycle of new beginnings. As beings living in a three-dimensional reality we tend to experience time as unfolding in a linear manner. Each New Year, birthday and anniversary is perceived as a marker or starting point for another unit of time that moves in a stream from present out into the future.

As we approach Winter Solstice it is a time for consolidation of energy. This is a season for rest, reverting to the root, and pulling in and grounding to Earth. Days are shorter and we are called indoors. We can use this time for self-nurturance so that the seed of these activities will sprout upward and outward in the spring.
