We are writing this on the Autumnal Equinox and just after Mercury retrograde. What a great time of the year. Harvest is still being gathered, but you can see the cycle of waning in the plants and leaves. It is a time of balance, a pivot point between the yang energy of Summer and yin of Winter. In Chinese medicine Autumn is related to the metal element, but right now there is much Earth bounty as well.
The pagan tradition recognizes Hermes (Mercury) as one of the prominent deities of the celebration of Mabon (which coincides with the Autumn Equinox). The metal element rules the lungs, which are, in turn, ruled by Mercury in medical astrology. Mabon is also a time of rest and of enjoying the fruits of the harvest that we have toiled to bring in. In Roman mythology Autumn also corresponds to the time when the goddess Persephone made ready for her descent into the underworld, signaling the coming of winter.
As daylight shortens, the energy of the Sun gives way to the energy of the Moon. In this part of the world, both September and October full moons are referred to as “harvest” moons. Octobers’ full moon arrives on October 5th is also called a “hunters” moon, named for the expectation of bountiful hunting at this time.
It is said that the Po, the spirit of the Lungs, guides us to appreciate our life’s treasures, the things we hold most precious and the abundance we experience with our senses. At this bountiful time of harvest, we can expand our appreciation to include all that stimulates and delights us in our environment – good food, music, visually beautiful things, and connection with beings that we love, both human and animal.
Seasonal transitions are times of energetic shifting both in our environment and in our bodies. Moving into Autumn, our energy begins to consolidate and move deeper. This is a good time for easing ourselves and our clients into resonance with the developing autumnal/Metal phase and for celebrating the abundance of the gathered bounty of the harvest.
Here are some suggestions for connecting with the abundance of the harvest and easing into autumn:
LU 1, Central Treasury/LIV 14, Cycle Gate – connects the sprit of the Lung, the Po, with the Spirit of the Liver, the Hun, allowing smooth flow of our appreciation of the beauty and perfection of our lives. Mercury/Jupiter LU 9, Great Abyss—The source point of the Lung meridian. Mercury/New Moon 5th to open connection to Source through the portal of the Po (Lung Spirit). Mercury/Earth Day 5th to support the energy of the Lung
Activating the Microcosmic Orbit using the Conception Vessel and the Governing Vessel balances the yin and yang as the yang of Summer gives way to the yin of the coming Winter. Full Moon 6th and Sedna/Venus can be used on the Conception Vessel to embrace the yin time. Mars/Venus and Low Ohm Octave can be applied to the Governing Vessel for balancing the yang in preparation for movement to yin.
UB 23, Kidney Shu – Mars/Venus balances both yin and yang at their source, followed by the Venus/Full Moon for full experience of Venus’ appreciation of the abundance and joy of life.
ST 36, Leg Three Mile – ED 5th – Debra Kaatz tells us that the nourishment of the harvest is stored here to insure survival through the winter.
High Octave ED and Jupiter forks woven in the subtle fields helps to entrain with the abundant harvest of the Earth.
