Amarys (Anne-Marie Rossignol)
Acutonics Practitioner & Licensed Teacher
We are thrilled to welcome Amarys as our newest faculty member, she is based in Montreal, Canada. As a representative of Acutonics®, Amarys is actively contributing to the expansion of the modality within global French-speaking communities through educational initiatives, live events, immersive experiences, and digital platforms globally. Her vision extends beyond practitioner circles, focusing on bringing the benefits of sound and frequency-based wellness to everyday individuals while preserving the integrity, rigor, and depth that define the Acutonics system.
Throughout her professional journey Amarys has studied extensively under numerous Acutonics teachers and mentors; she represents a new generation of practitioners and innovators emerging from the Acutonics Institute. Her ongoing mission is to bridge advanced frequency medicine with practical self-care applications, empowering individuals to engage more consciously with their own well-being while honoring the foundational principles and standards of the discipline.
She studied Acutonics Level I & II with Theresa Lee Morris who wrote: “We love seeing our community grow! Anne-Marie came to our British Columbia Centre in 2024 to begin her training. Her serious, disciplined approach and passion for learning are truly inspiring. We look forward to supporting her as she builds the Acutonics community in Quebec!
Some choose to step away from established paths to prioritize self-care and respond to a deeper inner calling. Over the past twenty years, Amarys has embodied this choice, committing to a more intentional way of living, working, and evolving through disciplined practice, cultural exploration, and sustained personal alignment. Quebec-born, of French-Breton heritage, she is also a world traveler fluent in English, French, and Spanish. She approaches life as both explorer and practitioner, drawing from lived experience, movement, and cross-cultural perspectives as essential foundations of her journey.
Her early career in high-performance environments, including elite competitive snowboarding and cross-continental cycling expeditions across South America, Europe, Scandinavia, and the continental United States, shaped a strong foundation of resilience, adaptability, and precision under pressure. These formative experiences cultivated a lasting understanding of human performance across both physical and psychological dimensions.
Delivering immersive, therapeutically impactful sound healing experiences and personalized one-on-one sessions, Amarys offers The Amarys Method™ and is introducing the Acutonics modality to Quebec. As a multidisciplinary healer, she brings a deeply personal connection to vibrational healing. Her relationship with sound began early, singing in a professional choir, studying music, and performing in iconic venues. She holds a university degree in Business Administration and the WSET Level 2 Award in Oenology, combining strategic acumen with refined expertise in wine and sensory analysis.
More than twenty years ago, she expanded her practice through yoga and breathwork training in California, integrating these disciplines into an ongoing commitment to holistic development and embodied awareness. As an athlete, entrepreneur, coach, educator, and designer, she later founded Leshift™, a Montréal-based Frequency Institute and Sound Healing Studio conceived as an immersive destination where her multidisciplinary expertise converges into a unified experiential framework. Alongside her role as practitioner and creative director of Leshift, Amarys draws on over two decades of women-led entrepreneurship, bringing together design thinking, exploration, athletic discipline, and integrative wellness practice.
Through contemporary interpretations of traditional healing arts and emerging approaches in frequency-based wellness, Leshift™ develops an ongoing practice within the spectrum of vibrational health. The work integrates modalities supported by applied research and consistent experiential outcomes, addressing multiple dimensions of well-being, including sensory perception, parasympathetic regulation, vibroacoustics, breath, and movement rhythms to create a cohesive framework that enhances the impact of each modality.
Rooted in refined frequency-based immersion practices, breathwork, movement, and somatic awareness techniques that support nervous system regulation, energetic alignment, and profound restorative balance, her work is centered on self-discovery, modality education, trauma-informed assessment, and holistic alternatives. Using precision-calibrated tuning forks within parts of her practice, she defines the Acutonics tools and instruments as leading instruments in global frequency-based practice and quality. She also integrates Acutonics and its Traditional Chinese Medicine framework, grounded in planetary correspondences, meridian-based energetic pathways, and the principles of Eastern medical philosophy expressed through
vibrational sound, adapting these principles for contemporary application.
Alongside this, she offers therapy sessions to the general public, introducing frequency- based approaches to a broader audience for everyday support and self-care, not solely as a learning pathway but as a complementary alternative for holistic well-being. Through this integrative approach, she honors the depth and lineage of Acutonics®, combining clinical precision with experiential practice to create a grounded and accessible therapeutic experience across modalities. She offers her methods and Acutonics® to the general public, guided by the belief that Acutonics continues to evolve as a key reference within the field of frequency-based and integrative health practices.
Her path into healing was profoundly influenced by personal experience. Following her fathers 22-year journey with Parkinsons disease, Amarys served as a dedicated caregiver during the final six years of his life. This experience deepened her understanding of presence, compassion, resilience, and the essential role of supportive care in the healing process, shaping much of the philosophy that guides her work today.
As a representative of Acutonics, Amarys is actively contributing to the expansion of the modality within global French-speaking communities through educational initiatives, live events, immersive experiences, and digital platforms globally. Her vision extends beyond practitioner circles, focusing on bringing the benefits of sound and frequency- based wellness to everyday individuals while preserving the integrity, rigor, and depth that define the Acutonics system.
Having studied extensively under numerous Acutonics teachers and mentors throughout her professional journey, she represents a new generation of practitioners and innovators merging from the Institute. Her ongoing mission is to bridge advanced frequency medicine with practical self-care applications, empowering individuals to engage more consciously with their own well-being while honoring the foundational principles and standards of the discipline.
At Leshift™ in Quebec and Eastern Canada, Amarys facilitates in-person large group and individualized sessions, group sound experiences (sound baths), workshops, and educational programs designed to restore coherence, cultivate emotional clarity, and support long-term well-being. Through her work, she contributes to the evolution of sound-based healing and broader frequency-based practices, fostering greater awareness of the role that frequency, vibration, and conscious presence can play in modern wellness.
She will also offer Acutonics® Levels I and II as the French representative beginning in summer 2026, while actively translating institute materials to expand accessibility and reach across French-speaking regions. Her work reflects a growing commitment to extending these teachings to French-speaking communities internationally. She will provide training and courses in both English and French in Quebec, supporting bilingual education and serving as a key regional resource for Acutonics® education in Eastern Canada.
In an ever-evolving world where wellness has become more than a trend and increasingly a way of life, the teachings and applications of Acutonics® offer a timely and meaningful framework for integrative care. Through her leadership, educational outreach, and dedication to excellence, Amarys is helping bring these transformative practices to a broader audience while supporting the continued growth and evolution of the global Acutonics community.
Amarys will begin teaching Acutonics Level I & II later this summer. She can be reached at info@leshift.ca, https://www.leshift.ca

Extraordinary Vessels:

Elk keep savings in magic groves

Soon people started inviting me to bring the gongs to festivals and events. I found myself saying yes, even though I was unprepared and terrified. These beautiful and powerful instruments pushed me, again and again, to say yes. They have allowed me to transform my life in ways unimagined, to step up in a more significant way.
After playing without instruction for almost 10 years, in 2021 I decided it was time explore the world of gong classes. I had no idea how to teach something that came so naturally to me… I enrolled in several courses over six months with the School of Gong: Mike Tamburo, Thomas Orr Anderson and Mitch Nur. I had no idea my gong playing could become so expanded. While many of the teachings supported what I was already experiencing, or knowing, I was introduced to new perspectives, new skills and various exercises that could keep me feeling inspired to play endlessly. The people coming to our gong journeys noticed too… my entire relationship with these sacred instruments changed. I feel it is time to share my wisdom and experience with my Acutonics community. I have created three new elective classes. Each elective can be taken in any order.

On Sunday afternoon we met at a stunning iconic venue in Byron that has a large open outside space underneath massive fig trees and a very cute church hall. We began with a smudge and didge ceremony taking a moment to connect to country and reflect on their personal journey through the Acutonics program. Then they each received their certificates and had the opportunity to share with the group, which included fellow students as well as loved ones who were able to be present for this celebration. After the formal presentation we all shared in a super fun connective experience, a group drumming workshop from a local African percussive teacher. The final celebration included a catered dinner and entertainment from a great African dance music band, Happy Africa. And dance we did!
Please join me in congratulating the newly Certified Acutonics® Practitioners in Australia: Yanina Benavidez, Caitlyn Brightmon, Rebecca Dini, Sara Do, Ruth Donnelly, Amanda Hustler, Candice Lambert, Megumi Matsumura, Meredith Myott, Alissa Nathaniel, Kristina Nott, Jodie Ramona, Jaye Roberts, Tiffany Sassafrass, Tracey Smail, Vanessa Strauss, and Francis Swindells.

Steve during an early morning walk at Sunrise Ranch, (bottom left), where we all learned the wisdom "we will know what we need to know when we need to know it."

When the element of fire is in balance, we experience the radiance, warmth, effervescence, expansive and yang nature, allowing for the growth and full potential of life. The power of fire comes from the capacity to liberate heat and light and realize joy and fulfillment. In the body, this delicate balance dance occurs between the heart (fire), lungs (metal), and kidneys (water), with proper kidney functioning providing restraint of fire.
In Astrology the heart is ruled by the Sun. Those born under the fiery sign of Leo, July 23rd – August 22nd, are on a life path to understand the ego, desolation of it and keep it in check, making the choice to lead from the love of the heart. Just as the light of the Sun shines light on our day, Leo’s shine the light of love through their passionate presence in all that they do. They reflect their love and light unto us and the world we know and remind us to stay the course of love through these changing and challenging times.
In her book “Character’s of Wisdom” Debra Katz describes the Chinese character for the emotion of fire as joy or Le. The character is drawn as a drum over a wooden music stand that has beautiful bells on either side. It represents joyful music that gladdens our hearts. The drum is ceremonial used in various sacred rites and observances. The sounds of these large instruments are used to invite spirits to come and join in the ceremony. In this way all the ancestors and gods are invited to come to earth for a brief while. In their presence everyone could be influenced by the greatness and form a brief relationship with that wisdom.
This relationship of being in the blessed presence of the ancient ones produces a deep harmony within each person and provides a feeling of great joy. It is the joy of deep understanding that brings enlightenment when we can touch those things that are beyond ourselves. It is where we are given a glimpse of the infinite beauty of the world and life. The Chinese believe that the heart must remain open to receive such wisdom.
In Fourth World, which we now live, Hopi were given instructions and the ability to work on Earth with elements of Air and Water by the Star People Kachinas. An example of this is demonstrated prior to the commencement of The Sacred Sun Dance in earlier times, which could only be held when the Hopi Medicine Man awakened these two elements and created rain. Having command over these elements was a Hopi responsibility. Due to Sacred Law, only then, after the rain, could the Sun Dance take place. This Sacred protocol one of the responsibilities of the Hopi, was critical to maintain the natural elements of nature in balance with the Universe and within the Fourth World called Tuwaqachi.
It is written that two brothers, the Blue Star Kachina (Saquasohuh) will open the door to the Fifth Age and the Red Star Kachina or Great Purifier will follow shortly afterward. The Blue Star Kachina reveals itself with the ninth and final sign before the Day of Purification. The Blue Star Kachina is represented in many cultures through the return of God, Prime Creator, Redeemer, or Elevated Consciousness. The prophecy warns all people to live as one with each other and the Earth. If we live disconnected from our Creator, in materialism, ego, and separation it will lead to the destruction of the Earth.

Seventeen hardy souls made up our lively and loving group. Most were repeat participants who know how magic happens at Mt Shasta and especially at Acutonics Camp. We always begin camp with a gong ceremony, poetry, and the inquiry of “what brought you here at this time?” It was profoundly touching to us to hear several people say that they “feel so safe at Acutonics Camp, it is a place I can be totally myself”.
We enjoyed the presence of three Venusian Yang men: Will Vukmanic, Chris Estes and Stuart Bell. Each is an experienced practitioner in their own field, and in a spontaneous loving process, offered a Hygiea blessing to every participant at Camp. They used the mid and low Hygiea hand chimes. There wasn’t a dry eye to be found during this deep honoring of the feminine. This was a natural off shoot of the ongoing discussion and teachings we had been doing about Hygiea since the first day of Camp. We can’t wait for the Hygiea gong!
The Ox is sacred in many world religions including Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism, where there is strong respect for the lives of animals as well as beliefs that violence of any kind is wrong. In Zoroastrianism the spirt of the cow is associated with the soul of the Earth. In Buddhism the Ox is said to represent Buddha nature, that it is possible for anyone to achieve enlightenment. In Japan the Ox is venerated in Shintoism and can be found in Tenmangu shrines, dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara or Michizane, the god of academics, who also has a relationship to health and wellbeing, that likely arises from a belief that cows have the power to cure disease.
Chapter 1: A History and Overview of Quantum Music Theory™provides useful and necessary information concerning the musical component of healing sound treatments, including Pythagorean number theory, the world of number and musical tones, the archetypal significance and healing applications of musical intervals and overtones, and the conversion of planetary movement into sound. Relevant anecdotes are included to illustrate this material. The planetary myth, archetype, and symbolism of the Acutonics® Ohm/Earth tuning forks, used in Vibrational Acupuncture™ treatments, is introduced.

More than any other sound, for me Sedna discovers and connects the worlds between, the inner world and outer one, the layers and movement within. When I feel Sedna’s vibration, I feel the layers and where, and in which layer, the vibration changes or stops or fades away, and I know why. What is going on with that person, is it habits and if so – what kind and how does it stop them from going forward? Is it fear? Of what? Is it …? is it…? IT can fade away down deeper into the body or it can dissolve at the point it reaches. At times, you feel the vibration is very “rich” and full and vibrant. In fact, you can put words to vibrations such as: full of heart, empty heart, full of guts, fearful, stubborn, happy, smoke, fire, water, land, animal, overwhelmed, far away, lives in her own world… and so on. Whatever works for you. Don’t stay with what you already know – explore more ways to describe what you hear in that special meeting point of tuning forks and another person. So many secrets.
This is how you learn the language, Then, when you put tuning forks on somebody else – SEE where the vibration goes, SEE the energy going through the layers, where is it strong, weak, stops, goes through. And from here it’s all about really and deeply trusting your intuition. Like Donna says repeatedly and I repeat it in my classes – Intuition, intuition, intuition. From day one, she got it through my thick skull, and it stayed and developed. Let your intuition guide you, trust your knowledge acquired over the years, from life, from Acutonics. You will know, I promise you.
Yinglong, the winged dragon, powerful servant of the Yellow Emperor Huang Di was immortalized, similar to canonization. It was Yinglong who helped Yu stop the yellow river from flooding by digging the channels with his tail. He traced the first meridian maps. He is the oldest of all the eastern dragons, and appears in many myths and legends.
Other dragons like the Dragon Kings rule over the seas of the 4 directions and have the ability to shapeshift into human form, when not found in their crystal palaces guarded by shrimp soldiers and crab generals. There are spiritual dragons and underground dragons, and dragons that pull the chariots for the gods, dragons that guard buried treasures like the earths precious resources and the ones humans greedily hoard, dragons that preside over the directions, that live in mountains and rivers and oceans. They are here to help, and are said to be able to make themselves as large as the universe and small as a silkworm.
As time went on, we had more opportunities to treat our other animal friends and the animal companions of family and friends. Treating different animals helped to expand our knowledge and understanding of how best to interact with reluctant or cautious animals and how to approach treatment of various imbalances.
We have found the balancing/harmonizing frequency of the Ohm forks can be totally adequate for treating most imbalances (in fact, our book provides strategies for treating with only Ohm forks as well as the option of using additional combinations). We also find it helpful to include Chiron forks for connection and communication with animals related to Chiron’s dual nature as both animal and human. Since the energy fields of animals are quite open, less is more. Simple approaches using a few points are very effective. Here are some simple suggestions to utilize Ohm and Chiron tuning forks to benefit your animal friends:
Treat your animal companions to an Acutonics session. As vibrational beings we can all, biped and quadruped, benefit from the healing frequencies of the Acutonics tuning forks.
Spheres of Influence: Multiuniverses, life, death, the afterlife, immortality, disease and healing, divine realization, interspecies communication, initiation of spiritual seekers, soul retrieval, throat singing, ecstatic dancers and singers connected to the great wellspring of Taoist mystics, hidden time and vast cosmic cycles, magic squares and compass rings, equalization, self-realization.
Queen Mother of the West: The Great Mother Archetype
empty yet inexhaustible,
Almost all mythology includes a creation story in which The Great Mother gives birth to herself and the cosmos through parthenogenesis. All life emerges from the egg, which splits in two to represent the polarities of the Universe—male and female, yin and yang, hot and cold, sun and moon, day and night, each a complement to the other and representative of the ever-changing balance that maintains harmony in the cosmos. Earth Mother myths are populated with imagery of wild beasts and serpents, water and fire, love, sex, death, and the underworld. While the stories may vary, and the characteristics of those that populate them may change over time the archetype they represent of a powerful female divinity remain the same from indigenous North American narratives to Neolithic Europe to Asia.
Embrace the Divine Teacher and Initiator
Azure Birds: There are three azure birds that abound in Xi Wangmu art and literature. They are part of her entourage of shamanic spirits and emissaries. It isfrom these birds that she receives nourishment and sustenance, they also circle Kunlun Mountain to guard yin essence.
Fantastic Beings and Shamanistic Helpers and Guides: The sacred abode of The Queen Mother of the West has many shamanistic emissaries in addition to the yin essence guarding Jade Maidens and azure birds, there are three footed crows, nine tailed foxes, dancing frogs and a moon-rabbit who pounds magical elixirs of transformation and transportation. Phoenixes, chimera, spirits riding on white stags, and the five colored dragons also support the goddess. She is clearly at home with the wild things and magic, her own shamanic roots and her early depiction that ties her to the tiger and leopard with whom she shares kinship in the western wilderness.
The Toad, Tortoise and the Hare: The toad and hare are fertility symbols that are unequivocally associated with the moon in many world mythologies, especially the Chinese. Toads are amphibious and spend the initial part of their lives underwater until they shed their skins, and then live on land or land and in water, speaking to the immortal and non-dual qualities of Xi Wangmu. The tortoise is an icon associated with earth, earth healing and emergence and creation of the world and all life. The peaches of immortality in the Western Paradise gardens were grown beside the Tortoise Pond symbolizing new creation and immortality. The hare or rabbit is a common symbol associated with Xi Wang Mu, and Chang-e the moon goddess. The rabbit is seen pounding the elixir of immortality, of life, with his mortar and pestle, holding the yin essence for eternity.
Today peaches are grown all over China and continue to have symbolic, magical, and nutritional value. They have appeared in many religious rites and ceremonies, and they are frequently found on alters of family shrines. In the book Golden Peaches of Samarkand: A Study of T’ang Exotics there are many accounts of foreign influence on early Chinese life and culture and the many exotic wares that were brought to China particularly during the T’ang Dynasty.
Other traditions also talk about this journey. The Buddhist spiritual text, Yoga Vasistha, says there are the Four Gates to freedom and enlightenment that are tranquility, contentment, good company and inquiry. There is a mandala that reflects this showing square with four gates, one on each side, enclosing a circle with a central point.
Here are some suggestions to add to your treatments, especially at this time, to access the cycles of expansion and connection with unlimited consciousness potential.
Character: Evolution
Each chakra has a relationship with an endocrine gland and a neural plexus. This defines a relationship between the chakras, the endocrine system, and the nervous system. When any neurologic tissue/neural network is activated by consciousness it creates mind. In our work we are stimulating this consciousness through vibrational resonance between the chakra and the chosen planetary frequency. Since each chakra has an associated nerve plexus, each has its own mind. This mind is activated by energy with conscious intent. When a chakra is activated it initiates activity of chemicals, hormones, tissues and cellular functions. It also produces energy.
Sedna, discovered in November of 2003, is a planetary body whose energy and archetypal qualities have been embraced by astrologers, as a unique entity and by Acutonics as an integral part of our applied methodology.
Sedna embodies the manifestation of both yin and yang energies simultaneously. Expressing as both particle and wave, she supports both nurturance and expression, creating self-sustaining energy that is limitless in scope and eternal in nature. The association of Sedna with the energy of super conduction and solitons are examples of this self-sustenance. Sedna energy facilitates a shift into non-linear time and the cyclic nature of the unified field. The super conduction energy of Sedna helps to create coherence between the body’s field and the unified field. She provides a portal to limitless possibilities.
Rosita, a philanthropist and one of the most influential Latin American fashion designers, created Latin Ángels Foundation as a nonprofit in 2004. Her mission is to provide help to underserved and impoverished communities of her native land: La Chiquitania, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, by providing educational programs and improving deficits in the health care system. The Wu Project’s mission statement is organized around very similar principles. With this common goal Rosita invited The Wu Project, under her sponsorship, to join and participate in an educational medical mission to Bolivia this August.
On July 25th, at the official opening of Rosita’s new atelier in Miami, Florida, a fundraising gala was held, Gala de Angeles. It was a very special event, including many notable celebrities of the Latin American entertainment industry and their guests. At this elegant and fun event the WU Project was welcomed and introduced to attendees, making an entirely new community aware of their mission and activities, and encouraging them to help them to help others. Alicia and Maria are incredibly pleased to have the support of Rosita Hurtado and to bring The WU Project to La Chiquitania, Bolivia as we continue our mission to teach others Chinese medicine, related modalities, and Acutonics and to serve underserved communities around the world.
Heart/Brain Coherence
The Song did not try to match the military strength of earlier dynasties or of their neighbors. Instead they focused their energies on the establishment of a civil state. Recognizing the strength of their neighbors, they chose cultural advancement. Founded as they emerged from the Warring States period, after more than a century of civil war, what developed was a period of unprecedented economic and industrial growth. A definitive moral, ethical, and metaphysical philosophy governed the political and social spheres of the Song dynasty. The teachings of Confucius and Mencius, who wrote from a desire to restore order after times of chaos and political unrest, were revisited; and neo-Confucianism emerged and remained prominent during the Song and Ming dynasties. In an exploration of the Northern Song Commentaries, Wood (1995) reflects: “If there is any single quality that the many varied expressions of early Sung culture share, it is the impulse to unify, to synthesize, to bring together rather than to separate, to discern underlying essence rather than temporary accident.”
From the 2nd century BC to the 15th century AD, civilizations such as China, India, Greece, Persia, and Rome exchanged goods and knowledge along trade routes that linked Asia and Europe through economic, political, religious, and cultural bridges. The Silk Road connected the Orient to the Occident and modern day western China with Europe via Bukhara and Samarkand, ancient cities that were part of the Persian Empire and now belong to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan’s northern neighbor. This critical cultural nexus stretched from the Korean Peninsula and Japan to the Mediterranean Sea. It was all-encompassing, incorporating routes on land and sea, connecting Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe. Its later permutations connected the Eurasian Steppe Routes. In modern times, new initiatives, such as China’s Belt and Road (also known as “One Belt, One Road” or OBOR) Initiative, are focused on building a modern-day Silk Road, already opening a vast new network of rail lines, sea, and air routes.
As we look ahead into the 21st century, China is investing billions of dollars into their new Silk Road created to open pathways into Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Although the goods are different, their influence on the rest of the world is strong. China holds a strong position in global world trade and internet sales that have no boundaries. This new network, not so different from the networks of traders of antiquity, is enhanced through modern transportation, the desire for natural resources such as oil and gas, as well as new technologies. We explore China’s new Silk Road and geopolitical repercussions later in this article.
All was not golden, as we still see today. The poor did not thrive; the farmers’ lot did not improve appreciably; and women remained oppressed. This is the dynasty during which the binding of women’s feet was prominent. Those who were fortunate enough to move to the new cities enjoyed rich culinary experiences and great music, art, and entertainment; and, for those who could afford it, just like today, there were many opportunities for travel and exploration. During this time Confucian scholars were emulated, and the military was not exalted or respected.
During the Song Dynasty Chinese Medicine thrived through the systemizationand integration of earlier theories developed in antiquity and expanded on during the Han dynasty (221 BC-220 AD). Of particularnote was the printing and broad dissemination of Warring States and Han error doctrines such as the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon and the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Eighty-One Problems which explored the human body in principles related to the microcosm and macrocosm, yin and yang, and the Five Phases. This development was also influenced by the philosophical tradition of Confucianism. Changes in medicine were largely driven by the emperors’ personal interests, resulting in a focus on scholarship, the revision and printing of medical texts and their integration into formal education, and the creation of the Imperial Pharmacy. In 982 the first official prescription book was published with more than 16,000 prescriptions including details of proper administration, and many sponsored institutions were established for public health and epidemics.
Calling on Administrator Chao Duanzhi (1079)
Ocean-faring vessels and ancient mariners would be lost without the compass, which was perfected in Song times. Instead of floating in water, the needle was reduced in size and attached to a fixed stem where it could point magnetically from north to south. Putting it in a case with a glass top made it handy and compact for sea travel.
In his “Dream Pool Essays” Shen Gua was the first to describe the magnetic needle, a major advancement in navigation. In addition, he discovered the concept of true north in terms of astronomical declination, and he measured the distance between the pole star and true, not magnetic, north. He was aware of the orbital paths of the moon and planets, but political opponents shut down his mapping. To aid and advance his work in astronomy, he greatly improved the designs of the armillary sphere, the gnomen, and the sighting tube; and he invented a new type of water clock.

KID 3, Great Ravine: The kidneys are the source of our core energy, our essence and our ancestral connection. They are the place that houses our unique expression within the hologram that is the Tao. In our physical manifestation the spirit of the kidney gives us the will to live and to thrive. This spirit (Zhi) provides us with connection to the collective unconscious moving past the fears of the ego and aligning us with divine will. The Mars /Venus 5th balances the expressions of kidney yin and yang. This balance provides a place of harmony between stillness and action where trust abides, allowing us to surrender our own will to the wisdom and guidance of the Tao.

Search and Rescue: Search and Rescue dogs have keenly developed olfactory senses. They are able to smell small particles in the air and ground and can detect the scents of missing individuals in rough and brutal landscape and weather conditions, even under water.
Consider for a moment how often the word “dog” is used in language, “hair of the dog,” “being in the dog house,” “working doggedly;” from the Anglo-Saxon language “to dog” means “to guard.” Whether you subscribe to the idea that dog took the initiative to domesticate human or that human invited in dog for protection, to aid in hunts, to guide, or to provide constant companionship, dog has contributed to our evolution and is an integral part of human development throughout the world. Dogs are depicted in ancient cave paintings, and remains of actual dogs or dog figurines have been discovered in sacred wells of the Celts and burial grounds throughout the world including China. The dog is a powerful aid to shamans throughout the world and also appears in theological writings, where a deep connection to dog is likened to the relationship to God.
Dog appears in the heavens as Sirius, the dog-star and guardian of the sun, moon, dawn, and dusk and the summer and winter solstices.
The image of Dog at a crossroads and as guide to the underworld is not dissimilar to the myths of Mercury who, as a psychopomp, guides souls to the underworld and is a protector of travelers and crossroads. Also, from the Greeks we have the myths of Hecate, goddess of night, the underworld, darkness, and hidden things. She is associated with the moon and rules over birth, life, death, and gateways and is depicted with a torch and a pack of hounds. In some imagery, she is depicted as three-headed – a dog, horse, and lion. In other Greco-Roman myths Hades, brother to Zeus and Poseidon, is the dark god and keeper of the keys to the underworld, often accompanied by the three-headed dog Cerberus.
