Full Moon 17° Capricorn – July 9
New Moon 0° Leo 5:46 AM EDT - July 23
Before we even get to the July 4th fireworks this month starts off with a bang! On July 2nd, Mars and Pluto will be in exact opposition to each other at 18° Cancer/Capricorn. If that wasn’t enough, on the same day we’ll also have 3 T-squares to Jupiter, Mercury, and the Moon, plus 3 Yods to Venus, Saturn, and the Moon. But we also have a grand fire trine between Saturn, North Node, and Uranus lending positive support and harmony. Needless to say, it’s a lot to take in. The T-square dynamics will change due to faster moving planets, so I will focus on those energies that remain consistent this month: the Yod to Saturn, T-square to Jupiter, a T-square to the Nodes, always important to the story unfolding, and the Grand Fire trine. When I look at these aspects together, they seem to be saying “change or die,” and by “die” I mean the experience of having unwanted change overpower conscious choice. However, the planets Jupiter, Mercury, Moon, Venus, and the grand trine involving Saturn, help to soften the volatility of the Pluto/Mars opposition, supplying much needed support and inspiration for change – all for the sake of experiencing life more fully and deeply.
Let’s start with the Yod to Saturn. On July 1st, Sedna and Venus are combust at 26° Taurus, while Mercury is at 23° Cancer, forming a Yod to Saturn at 23° Sagittarius. While Venus and Mercury move quickly, this configuration sets the tone for the rest of the month and, as they move, other planets take over to recreate the Yod aspect with Saturn. What do Cancer and Taurus have in common with Sagittarius? In very broad terms, it is about blending the need for security with optimism. Further breakdown suggests that emotional security (Cancer) and Taurus (self-esteem, sensuality, and material security) combine with Sagittarius (optimism, belief systems, and the need for adventure).
As Mercury and Venus continue to move, we still have a quincunx between Sedna and Saturn, which, let’s not forget, is the dispositor of Pluto as it continues its sojourn in Capricorn. This suggests that we are seeking (Sagittarius) a new structure (Saturn) for Sedna’s expression in Taurus. Taurus is about building something that lasts, acquisition of earthly resources, peace, stability, self-esteem, and sensuality – preferably without Plutonian drama.
On the day of the Full Moon, as Mercury moves away, Mars steps in to ignite our desire, and perhaps our ire, to make the necessary adjustments in resolving this Yod formation, as it forms an exact quincunx to Saturn on July 9. With Mars in Cancer, we are activating nurturance and protection around the issues presented by the Yod, that of Cancer, Taurus, and Sagittarius. Look to where these are in your chart for more personal information.
In the T-square involving Jupiter (dispositor of Saturn in Sagittarius), we have Jupiter in Libra, Sun/Mars/Mercury in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn. This suggests a need to form lasting and authentic (Pluto in Capricorn) emotional bonds (Cancer stellium) within the context of equal partnerships (Jupiter in Libra).
An interesting backdrop to this month’s energies, and something I believe to be fundamental to any chart analysis, is looking at aspects to the nodal axis. Anything that challenges the South Node, is a hurtle that must be understood, integrated, and resolved in order to achieve the fulfillment of the North Node expression. This month begins with a tight square to the Nodes, and also involves the Sedna/Venus combust at 26° Taurus.
The North Node at 25° Leo is asking us to reclaim our Divine and regal right as children of the Universe, participating with more joy, exuberance and willingness to take risks (Leo). As we do, we may need to transform a default tendency to remain an “outside observer” (Aquarius) who records life’s dramas like a scientist in the lab, unwilling to “get into the mix” of things and fully express our own creativity. The fact that Sedna/Venus are squaring the nodes means that this is what we are being asked to resolve.
It can be no coincidence, especially to those of us who work with the Sedna archetype, to discover that not only is she involved in the quincunx to Saturn and T-square to the Nodes, she also has Leo rising in her own discovery chart. This suggests the need to come out of the shadows, transforming her status as a cast away/outsider (South Node Aquarius), and take her rightful (regal) place in our world.
Fortunately, the Grand Fire trine provides us with the encouragement we need. We have Uranus at 28° Aries, North Node 25° Leo and Saturn 23° Sagittarius. The fact that Uranus rules the South Node (Aquarius), is in harmony with the North Node (new direction), and Saturn (slow, steady achievement toward that aim), we are being supported by the Universe to successfully navigate change.
This month, with the Sun in Cancer, we are incorporating the Moon’s need for security and protection. The dynamics of the Pluto/Mars opposition, Yod, T-squares and Grand Fire Trine are, however, encouraging us to come out of our proverbial shell and seek new ways of achieving safety and security. By the time of the New Moon at 0° Leo on July 23rd, much like the Fool’s Journey in tarot, we are given the opportunity to embark on a brand new adventure. Let’s make it a good one, shall we?
I recently came across a beautiful book called Alchemy of the Extraordinary: A Journey into the Heart of the Meridian Matrix (2015), by Pater Shea, LAc. He beautifully describes the poetic and mystical nature of the extraordinary meridians, and the importance of awakening our Divine blueprint and destiny. When it comes to healing, I can think of no more profound combination than awakening one’s destiny, inherent in the cosmic astrological imprint, with the infinite potential lying wait in the reservoirs of the extraordinary channels.
“The Yin Qiao and Yang Qiao Vessels are about conscious awareness in the present moment…They represent the genetic, constitutional and Yuan Qi level aspects of our stance and posture. As such they are very structural and have a skeletal resonance…We often learn to adopt a posture that limits the flow of energy through us. This gives us an apparent sense of safety, like driving extra slow, but it keeps us from accessing the power that we need for transformation.” (Shea, 2015, p. 243).
Personal – Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury
Interpersonal – Jupiter, Saturn
Transpersonal – Uranus, Pluto, Sedna
The following represents possible combinations for resolving the astrological dynamics this month on the Qiao vessels. As always, practitioners should customize sessions according to their own experience, intuition, client needs, and the astrology chart involved.

"Every cell in our body is a sound resonator. Every cell lives in a dynamic rhythmic pattern. Each organ has its own cycle and its own pulse. Each and every system has a cycle, rhythm, pattern, and pulse that exist in resonant harmony and sympathy to the cycles of the earth and the heavens. These body systems respond to sound vibration, as do our spiritual, mental, and emotional states of consciousness. "
