Will Morris added, “Christine is extremely competent and professional. She has a true passion for the work and will make great contributions.” One of those great contributions is Christine’s comprehensive Acutonics thesis, entitled: Tridimensional Link Between Acupuncture, Acutonics and Psychology for the Treatment of Anxiety/Depression.
Christine’s expansive body of thesis research examines the link between Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acutonics, and Psychology, with a clear goal to identify treatment possibilities for anxiety and depression and to evaluate their efficacy. Working with seven study participants, whom each received three treatments, Christine measured the treatment response using Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostics assessments, the Becks Depression Inventory, and the Screen for Adult Anxiety Related Disorders (SCAARED). In addition, client’s qualitative reflections pre and post treatment provided a clear and positive answer to the question explored, “Is Acutonics a reliable treatment option for anxiety and depression?”
The statistical analysis and client narratives support the value of Acutonics Sound Medicine as a therapeutic approach for the treatment of anxiety and depression. Among her findings, the SCAARED results showed an overall reduction in study participant anxiety, from 249 to 161. Panic disorders and significant somatic symptoms were greatly reduced from 62 to 4 within the group studied. Additionally, Generalized Anxiety was reduced from 93 to 70, Separation Anxiety reduced slightly from 13 to 12, and Social Phobia Disorders reduced from 82 to 37. The overall score from the Becks Depression Inventory went from 121 to a 72 indicating that participants moved symptomatically from varying stages of depression to normal ups and downs in moods.
Participant qualitative narratives regarding the treatments were extremely positive. One hundred percent of participants reported that Acutonics is worth considering as a treatment option. The overall experience was described as wonderful, enjoyable, relaxing, and uplifting. Even further – very positive responses were experienced throughout the days following treatments, suggesting positive lasting results. Participants remarked that Acutonics allowed them to focus on how they are feeling – freeing the mind of overthinking, invasive thoughts, and worry. The experience was described as “being pulled into a relaxed state” as if “being pulled back down to earth. It felt like weights on my chest were lifted off.” Others described a perceived energy release, and a feeling of relaxation and restfulness with a feeling of balance and contentment.
I myself had the pleasure of being involved in Christine’s thesis mentorship. I have been continually amazed with the rich depth of information the thesis includes. Christine’s work goes far in detail describing the TCM therapeutics that were used, the specific Acutonics tools selected, and the qualities of the specific points she selected.
In July of 2023 Christine achieved the designation of Certified Acutonics® Practitioner. Erin Taylor, one of Christine’s instructors, commented and congratulated her on her journey and accomplishments, remarking that “Christine has a tenacity and curiosity that brought an energy to class and inspired conversations and unique perspectives. What a welcomed addition to the Acutonics community and for the clients that she works with! Congratulations on this accomplishment Christine, it was an honor to be a part of this journey with you” she said.
Christine is a native of Canada. She was born in Calgary, Alberta and spent many summers with her grandparents in British Columbia. She currently lives in Langdon, Alberta and is a registered Acupuncturists and Dr. of Acupuncture. Her love of animals began at a young age, and she enjoys photography, spending time with friends, cooking and traveling. The mother of two teenage girls, her animal companions include Popeye the cat, and Rex a Doberman! “Both Rex and Popeye claim they are my clinic assistants!” Christine writes. “I am pretty confident that the patients look forward to seeing them after treatment just as much as Rex and Popeye look forward to seeing the patients.”
Christine’s tenacity can be witnessed through her actions. “I opened my home-based practice in Langdon in 2020 as an Acupuncturist. Yes, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even though there was a pandemic, I saw the needs of people and decided it was what I needed to do. Three years later I am still practicing in Langdon and offer services in Strathmore and Calgary.”
Like many drawn to the healing arts, Christine did not follow a straight path. She is a self-proclaimed life-long student. “My journey of study over the years has most definitely not been a straight road. Who wants to drive a straight road anyway? The curves and plot twists along the way are really what make life worth living! I have a diploma in marketing from The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge, a Photography Certificate from Mount Royal University, and a Graduate degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from the Calgary College of TCM and Acupuncture in Calgary. This year I was blessed enough to add my Acutonics Practitioner Certification! Honestly, I will probably never stop learning!”
Her professional life has included a series of rich and diverse experiences. Christine reflects: “I’ve been a Meat Purchaser for a large corporation, managed programs in post-secondary institutions, assisted a Vice President of Human Resources, acted as a Committee Personnel for the stewardship of elderly families, and now a practicing Doctor of Acupuncture and Acutonics Certified Practitioner. This road has not been straight.”
Christine was first introduced to Acutonics as an Acupuncture student. “As a first-year student, a senior student introduced me to Acutonics during a treatment. I was in love, and I was hooked from the first moment! I knew I had to learn this modality.”
I asked Christine, “what specifically about Acutonics appeals to you?”
“I love that I can combine it with acupuncture or provide it as a stand-alone treatment. I am also exploring opportunities for group sessions. Although sometimes I don’t follow the rules, and I find my treatments are guided by pure intuition. Shh… don’t tell Ellen or any of my teachers 😉.”
(The humor here of course is that she was talking with me, Ellen. I know that other faculty will commend Christine for her approach. Shh…don’t tell anyone that we encourage students to learn the rules and determine when it is appropriate to break them.)
Prior to Acutonics Christine was practicing Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, but as she added Acutonics into her practice, she found people to be extremely receptive to the modality.
“This past spring, I introduced a local Rancher/Farmer to Acutonics in his tractor in the middle of the field. Remember those rules I talked about? No, me neither, feel free to insert a cheeky grin and giggle here. Curious about each other’s jobs, he gave me the opportunity to spend the day “seeding” and see some of the insides of agricultural life. Of course, I took the opportunity and brought a pair of Ohm forks with me, I mean why not right? So, in the middle of a farmer’s field in a tractor, on a little break with the engine off, I introduced him to Acutonics! His response: Wow that’s awesome! The result? He ended up being one of my case studies for my Acutonics thesis and has since sent me referrals. Remember what I said about life’s roads not being straight?”
Christine reports receiving elevated results from her layered treatments which incorporate acupuncture, tuning forks, Hand Chimes, Koshi Chimes, Tibetan bowls, Tingshas, and Essential oils.
Now that Christine has completed her Acutonics certification she hopes to put together some group sessions for friends and colleagues and will of course be open to exploring “whatever plot twist comes next.”
