In recognition of the Lunar Year of the Dog we thought it appropriate to create a reminder of the benefits of Acutonics for our dog friends. We can employ our forks to treat specific imbalances or simply as a periodic “tune up” to maintain energy flow and well-being. Magic, our personal companion and clinical healing partner, gets tunings a couple of times a week. The first time you work with the forks with your dog friend it is important, due to the newness of this experience, to introduce them gently.
Center and ground yourself to start. Sit on the floor and bring out the forks and play with them by yourself without paying any special attention to your dog other than to make sure they are in close enough proximity to sense what you are doing. Let your dog friend come to you and sniff the forks. Listen to either or both of the Ohm forks and put them on yourself on points or over meridians. If the dog seems interested, sound a fork in the field some distance away and watch for their reaction.
Take a cue from your friend’s behavior, how do they respond to having the forks near them? If they seem interested, but wary, let them explore the experience in their own time. It might be useful to play with the forks for just a couple of minutes by yourself, allow your friend to watch and then put them away, or leave the forks on the floor while you go do something else and allow sniffing or other discovery to occur in private. Sometime later play with the forks again to see if your dog is less wary. When your dog friend gets comfortable with the idea of the Acutonics instruments hold a vibrating fork in one hand while petting or touching them with the other hand. If your dog friend seems comfortable with the forks, you can try applying the forks directly on the body.
If your animal friend does not like the forks placed directly on the body, you can strike a fork and hold it up to your ear, or just hold the vibrating fork in one hand and place the tip of a finger on the opposite hand on an acupuncture point. You will usually be able to feel the vibration between the tip of your finger and the animal’s body. The same technique can be used by placing your entire free hand over an area that you wish to treat. It may be somewhat harder to feel the vibration when the whole hand is used, but it is just as effective as the fingertip method for treating larger areas, such as over an organ, or over a shoulder or hip. If you are using just the Ohm forks with this first method, it is pretty straight forward. If you are using a second fork other than the Ohm fork along with the first Ohm fork to create an interval you can do this in two steps. First, sound the Ohm fork and place your finger or hand on the point or area. Second, sound the other fork you are using to make the interval and place your finger or hand on the point or area. The body will create the interval from the two frequencies done in close time proximity to one another.
Another method of treatment is the direct application of the Acutonics tuning forks to the body on acupuncture points, meridians or areas of discomfort.
A third method is to hold the two vibrating prongs of the tuning fork or forks over an area or point (without physical contact) at a distance that is comfortable for your dog friend. You can get very good results in both animals and humans pointing a vibrating fork at an acupuncture point, a chakra or over a wider area of the body such as a sore muscle or a bruise.
We have found that some dogs may be comfortable with direct application of the forks on some acupuncture points and not on other points. You can use a combination of the above methods of application depending on need.
Here are a few specific recommendations for common imbalances. Point locations and additional treatment ideas are available in our book, Acutonics for Dogs and Cats, Sound Healing for Animal Health.
Ohm Unison forks can be used in place of the intervals shown below.
Remember to keep treatments simple. Dogs are very sensitive and usually very receptive. They return to a balanced energetic state without complex approaches. Use only a few (3-5) sets of points to start. This may be enough. Refrain from over-treating. Almost always, “less is better.”
Extraordinary Vessels— Ren: Open on LU 7; Balance on KID 6, apply New Moon 5th, Ohm/Chiron 2nd; DU: Open SI 3; Balance on UB 62, apply New Moon 5th, Ohm/Chiron 2nd
Extraordinary Vessels— Chong: Open on SP 4; Balance on P 6, apply Ohm Unison or Ohm Octave to harmonize; Yin Wei: Open on P 6; Balance on SP 4, apply Ohm Unison or Ohm Octave to harmonize
ST 36: Earth Day 5th to strengthen digestion
SP 6: Earth Day 5th to strengthen digestion
Ren 12: Ohm Unison to harmonize. This point is often sensitive, you may need to apply forks indirectly off body
P 6: Ohm Unison to harmonize
UB 21: Earth Day 5th to strengthen digestion or Ohm Unison to harmonize
Extraordinary Vessels — Ren: Open on LU 7; Balance on KID 6 apply Full Moon 6th to nourish the kidney yin energy; DU: Open on SI 3; Balance on UB 62, apply Earth Day 5th to strengthen kidney energy or Solar 7th for warming and strengthening yang energy (if worse with cold)
UB 23: Earth Day 5th to strengthen kidney energy or Solar 7th to tonify yang if worse with cold
KID 3: Earth Day 5th to strengthen the kidney energy or Solar 7th to tonify yang if worse with cold
UB 40: New Moon 5th to open the flow of energy in the joints or Zodiac 3rd to disperse stagnation if pain is in hip, knee or ankle
Apply the tuning forks to areas of pain around the joints. New Moon 5th to open or Zodiac 3rd to disperse

Extraordinary Vessels — Ren: Open LU 7; Balance KID 6, apply Earth Day 5th or Full Moon 6th; DU: Open SI 3, Balance UB 62, Solar 7th or Earth Day 5th
UB 23: Earth Day 5th
KID 3: Earth Day 5th
UB 28: Earth Day 5th or Full Moon 6th
We hope that this inspires you to treat your dog friends to an Acutonics session for their health and harmony.
