Welcome to September: Tools for Healing the World

Welcome to September! Word of this mostly Virgo month is ingress, which is the movement of a planet from one sign into the next. Ingress derives of the Latin ingressus, to 'go in' or 'enter'. A chart is calculated for the moment of entry into a new sign. There are four taking place in September; they are Chiron, Venus, Mars and the Sun. We look at the ingress as a moment of ritual, contemplation, and possibilities.

Venus leaves Libra, the sign she rules and moves into the sign of Scorpio. Venus moving into Scorpio is a perfect period to explore the shadow parts of self in relationships.

Forks that become useful at such times as the movement of Venus into Scorpio include Venus and Pluto as the archetypal myth of Persephone taken to the underworld by Hades. The myth began when Venus was known as the Mesopotamian goddess, Inanna. It refers to the period when Venus goes under the beams of the sun and is less than 18˚ from the Sun, and thus cannot be seen in the sky. We are past that now, so the opportunities for Venus to make her own choices are present as Venus enters Scorpio at 5:25 pm on September 9th, 2018 in Washington, DC. Slight anticipation and mild stimulation of the flight- or-fight mood rises, given the traditional ruler of Scorpio, Mars influencing the Venusian endeavors of art, beauty, sweet caresses and the natural world. The celebration of the feminine in a place of power commands the use of asteroid goddesses during this period of Venus in Scorpio. Also, use Sedna as the expression of power through the victim’s forgiveness. Forks that are useful for the period of Venus in Scorpio are the asteroid Goddess Juno/Hera, Sedna, Venus, Mars, and Pluto. They can be used on the Three Treasures, Chakras and Meridians as appropriate.

Now Mars takes off from Capricorn to Aquarius only one day later than Venus’ trip into Scorpio. Mars leaves his place of maximum strength, exalted in Capricorn on September 10 at 8:54 pm in Washington DC. Mars strength only declines mildly. Moving from an Earth to an Air sign, he takes action in the zone of communications and thoughts as opposed to the concrete material of Capricorn where he enjoys himself as the honored guest. In the fixed sign of Aquarius, Mars is not so quick to act, and neither are you.

Traditionally, Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius, so we can work with these correspondences and utilize the chimes of Mars and Saturn. If we choose the post-modern path of planetary rulers, then let’s pull out Uranus and light some fire with Mars, electrically of course.

The principle we are invoking here is that of sympathy. When we sympathize with planetary spirits through healing sound, we call upon the forms within and without to generate coherence and a healing statement. Sympathy is a feature of the homeopathic concept, but also some features of the five element point of view, and can be called the “doctrine of correspondences.”

Conceptual Issue: Treating sympathetically or antipathically. Sympathetic treatments use the principle of similars. We use Mars to treat a Mars issue. Mars is hot and dry. If we treat antipathically, we use opposite humor or archetype, in the case, the Moon is cool and moist for the humoral opposition, and the compassionate mother archetype softens the harder need for action emanating from Mars.

There is always the question of whether to treat by sympathy or antipathy. Sympathetic treatment would be the use of Sedna for issues of abandonment. Antipathic treatment would be the use of Venus for a hot, dry Mars. She is cool and moist in the evening sky (occidental) but warmer and moister, in the morning sky (oriental). Thus, her efficacy as a cool, moist agent is enhanced when she is the evening star. Another opposite approach to a hot, dry Mars could be the cool, moist Moon.

Chiron dances back into Pisces in its retrograde path. Moving from an action-oriented fire sign to an adaptable water sign – we have an opportunity to excavate the deeper regions of the psyche with this motion.

Now – for the Biggy – the Sun moves into Libra as it does every September. So why such a big deal some people ask. Ever since pre-modern times, astrologers used the Aries ingress of Spring for predictions related to the affairs of a nation. Here, we use the Libra ingress.

What is rather novel about this ingress is the presence of Chiron at 00˚ Aries 08.’ There are 360 degrees in a circle and 60 minutes within each degree. That is eight moments out of 21,600.

The last time Chiron was at the 0 Aries point, was 1968-1969. In 1968, racial equality received an indelible imprint on April 4th in the assassination of Martin Luther King. During the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, two black athletes staged a silent demonstration against racial discrimination in the United States. November 22: "Star Trek" airs American television's first interracial kiss. Plus, there was the assignation of Bobbie Kennedy on June 5th. Major news stories in 1969 included The Beatles' last public performance on the roof of Apple Records, and Woodstock happened. Nixon withdrew 25,000 U.S. troops from Vietnam. The first man landed on the moon with the Apollo 11 mission by the United States. Neil Armstrong, and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon.

The conjunction of Chiron to the Aries point before this was in 1918 and 1919. Mahatma Gandhi initiates Satyagraha campaigns, beginning his nonviolent resistance movement against British rule in India. Race riots erupted in 26 U.S. cities in 1919.

The Aries point is important because it is the point of the first day of spring, and it is the focal point of the tropical zodiac and from which the sidereal zodiac is calculated. This Aries point relates to the world at large. Since it is the point which revolves through the Zodiac to create the Great Year, it is a sensitized point to the Zodiac fork. Important forks for this period are Zodiac, Ohm, and the Sun. These can be used on the three treasures, or, as a ritual with gongs, chimes, and high frequency tuning forks.
